"Einheitsbuddeln": Planting trees as a new tradition for the Day of German Unity

"Imagine, on October 3rd, every person in Germany would plant a tree. 83 million. Every year. A new forest. For the climate. And for you and your family. For our future". This is the motto of the tree planting campaign that takes place in Schleswig-Holstein on the day of German reunification.

This year, the celebrations for the Day of German Unity in Schleswig-Holstein will be organized. To celebrate the 3rd of October, the state has called for the action "Einheitsbuddeln", which means unit digging. Compared to other countries which celebrate their national holiday, we have no special tradition and no possibility to participate actively in it. This is to change now, by the tree planting hands-on campaign.

All people in Germany should plant a tree on the Day of German Unity. Who does not have the possibility or the place to plant a tree, can finance a planted tree with a donation of 5 euro. Thus a new forest is to be created each time to the day of the German unit,. For the climate and our future.

Already in August the donation goal of over 40,000 trees for Schleswig-Holstein was reached. But not only in Schleswig-Holstein large areas are to be planted. Everyone can contribute with a planted tree to the complete work. The more people participate, the larger the forest becomes. A new ritual in which all humans in Germany can participate united around a common future to arrange. The vision is to establish the tree planting in the future as a firm component of the 3rd October.
