Hair oil - A little luxury for every day
Fantastically shiny hair without split ends, strong and resistant - who wouldn't want that? In order to achieve the hair of our dreams, we browse through the various product worlds, try out a hair serum here and a leave-in treatment there, but often end up back at the basics, namely shampoo, conditioner and hair treatment from our favourite brand(s).
I only realised that a hair oil can be a major addition to a hair care routine that is usually quite well established when I tried it out by chance. Now my favourite hair oil definitely has a "can't live without it" status for me, and I now even have it in different sizes because I don't want to be without it when I'm travelling, at the gym or on weekend trips. It just makes such a difference and in a positive way.
What makes hair oil so special?
A large proportion of hair oils are made up of precious oils of plant origin, whose nourishing, conditioning and regenerating properties make the hair shiny and smooth. Argan oil, camellia oil, coconut oil, almond oil and jojoba oil can be among the ingredients due to their nourishing properties. The hair is supplied with moisture and nutrients, it becomes much easier to comb and is gently detangled. Even damaged and brittle hair is given a great shine and looks much healthier as a result. The improved combability also prevents hair breakage when combing the hair. Some manufacturers add heat protection to the already protective and nourishing oil so that the oil is also reliably protected from external influences when using thermal appliances such as straighteners, curling irons or simply blow-drying.
How do I use hair oil?
Hair oil can be used in various ways. However, the most common way is to work it into towel-dried hair after washing. Application in damp hair is highly recommended, as the oil can be applied very evenly and no residue is visible after drying. The oil is applied sparingly to the lengths and ends, after which you can style your hair as usual. After drying, you can usually see after the first use that your hair looks more well-groomed, is tamed and shines wonderfully. Personally, my hair was much more like a Disney princess afterwards than a mop. And by mop, I don't mean a nice, new mop fresh from the drugstore, but a miserable, tattered one that has been used to scrub several school floors.
However, it is also possible to use hair oil on dry hair. Especially dry ends and lengths benefit from being moisturised with hair oil from time to time. To do this, rub a really small amount into your hands and carefully massage into the ends and lengths. This protects the hair from frizz and if you have hair that likes to get frizzy from time to time, you will notice that it becomes much smoother looking and fells more silky. However, you really have to be careful when using it on dry hair that you apply it sparingly, otherwise residues can quickly become visible and the hair can appear greasy. So if you don't want to chase away an unwanted admirer with it, you should be careful.
