Causes of dry hair

Common causes of dry hair are, for example

  • extreme styling
  • coloring
  • Environmental influences such as heat, sun or cold
  • an unbalanced diet
  • stress
  • too little fluid intake
  • a hereditary, dry scalp that produces too little sebum

Stress in particular often affects the skin and hair. The skin - and therefore also the scalp - is dry, perhaps even flaky, the hair brittle and dull. Of course, stress cannot be completely ruled out in our world. However, you should always ensure that you have enough balance in your everyday life. Treat yourself to a regular walk in the fresh air or try yoga or other relaxation techniques. The sun or dry heating air can also be very hard on our hair. In these extreme weather conditions, you need to take good care of your hair.

Nutrition is particularly important for a healthy organism. Your diet should be varied, with a bit of everything and, of course, lots of fruit and vegetables. You can also do your body some good by drinking plenty of fluids in the form of water. Drinking enough water is particularly important for the body's processes to run smoothly. Incidentally, top models also swear by this. They drink plenty of water before important fashion shows and events. This makes the skin look rosy, well supplied with blood and fresh and the hair shines silky and has a great bounce.

Daily styling with hairdryers, straighteners, curling irons and the like put an enormous strain on our hair. That's why you should always fall back on hairstyles that work with air-dried hair. This allows your hair to recover from the stresses and strains and recharge its batteries. Particularly if you have a dry scalp due to hereditary factors, you should make sure you use rich care and the right shampoo. Frequent washing also dries out the hair and scalp, as the natural protective layer produced by sebum on the scalp is washed away. This natural protective layer around the hair is particularly thin and permeable in dry hair. As a result, the cuticle layer underneath is attacked much more quickly and becomes porous. The moisture in the hair is lost more quickly and the hair dries out from the inside out.

What helps against dry hair?

Dry hair needs special care. When buying shampoo, conditioner, hair treatment and other products, make sure they have a high moisture content. Almost all manufacturers offer special products for dry hair. They store moisture in the cuticle from the outside and seal it with a protective layer. This keeps the moisture in and the hair shines again and looks healthier. The right products for dry hair also significantly improve combability. The care substances contained in these products, such as argan oil, shea butter or aloe vera, repair brittle areas and fill in gaps. Silicones also seal the cuticle layer with a delicate film and thus prevent moisture loss in the hair. However, you should only use products with a high silicone content (which is not water-soluble!) to a limited extent on dry hair. Make sure that you use a deep cleansing shampoo every now and then to make sure you remove all residues from your hair. Otherwise, the silicones will build up layer by layer around the hair and prevent moisture and conditioning agents from penetrating the hair structure. This dries out the hair from the inside out in the long term. However, you can use products with water-soluble silicones on dry hair. The silicones are responsible for the shine and suppleness without which your hair would look dry.

Give your hair a break from styling every now and then and simply let it air dry. In addition, a balanced, varied diet and sufficient hydration in the form of water will ensure optimum moisture balance from the inside out.

Shampoo for dry hair cleanses hair and scalp gently and mildly. Care substances penetrate the hair structure during washing and moisturize the hair. If your hair is dry, you should not avoid using a conditioner. The conditioner closes the pores that have been roughened by washing and the rich conditioning agents penetrate the hair structure. A conditioner provides good protection and ensures shiny, healthy-looking hair.
