Causes of an oily scalp
An oily scalp is due to the natural sebum production of the scalp. This is important to supply the hair with nutrients and protect it from drying out and external influences. From a medical/health point of view, an oily scalp is harmless in most cases, but people often attribute the appearance to a lack of hygiene and the person affected feels uncomfortable. Oily scalp is therefore a cosmetic problem.
Every body is different, sometimes the scalp simply produces more sebum than average. However, a sensitive and stressed scalp can also produce an excessive amount of sebum. The result is an oily scalp and greasy hair. This is the body's way of protecting the skin and cells from external influences. However, too much heat (washing your hair too hot, hair straighteners, hair dryers etc., sunlight, etc.), the wrong shampoo or hair care products that irritate the scalp can also lead to an oily scalp. The scalp can also produce more sebum when the body temperature rises (e.g. due to sport or illness). Hormonal causes are also often responsible for increased sebum production and therefore an oily scalp.
Oily hair - what to do?
If your scalp suddenly becomes oily quickly, you should switch to a and even if it is difficult, only wash your hair every 2-3 days. Do not wash your hair with hot water, only lukewarm water. The sebaceous glands are most active at night, so it is recommended that you wash your hair in the morning if you have an oily scalp. These measures allow the scalp to calm down and normal sebum production is restored after a short time. The oily scalp is regulated again and a normal balance is restored.
Also avoid exposure to excessive heat and give your hair regular styling breaks. If there is an underlying illness or hormonal disorder, a visit to the doctor is unavoidable. Do not apply too much care at once, because if the hair is "over-cared for", this also has the effect of causing the scalp to produce more sebum. We recommend washing your hair every 2-3 days with a mild shampoo, applying a conditioner to the lengths and ends and using a nourishing hair mask once a week. If you tame your hair with heat, you should also use a to protect your hair. Only brush your hair as much as absolutely necessary, preferably only in the lengths and ends, so as not to distribute the sebum throughout your hair. This should quickly solve the problem of an oily scalp.
If you have an oily scalp, it is very difficult not to wash your hair every day. To bridge the time between washes without feeling uncomfortable, are ideal. They are simply sprayed onto the roots and give the hair a pleasant freshness and conceal an oily scalp.
If you have an oily scalp, it is best to choose a light, moisturizing conditioner and avoid silicones if possible. These are more suitable for dry, brittle hair and would promote an oily scalp.
